Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Comprehensive Care to Protect Your Central Vision
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50. It affects the macula - the part of your retina responsible for sharp, central vision needed for reading, driving, and recognizing faces. Early diagnosis and expert management can help slow progression and preserve your quality of life. At Lynn Valley Optometry, our AMD Center of Excellence offers advanced testing, personalized treatment, and ongoing support tailored to your needs.
Why Early Detection Matters for AMD
AMD can develop gradually with few early symptoms, making regular eye exams essential, especially if you have risk factors like age, family history, smoking, or high blood pressure. Detecting AMD early allows us to intervene sooner and customize a plan to protect your vision.
What to Expect During Your AMD Evaluation
Detailed Retinal Imaging
Using cutting-edge OCT and retinal photography, we closely examine your macula to identify any early signs of AMD or progression.
Personalized Risk Assessment
We review your health history, lifestyle, and genetics to create a comprehensive risk profile.
Customized Care Plan
Depending on your condition — dry or wet AMD — we offer monitoring, nutritional counselling, lifestyle guidance, and advanced treatment options.

MacuMira AMD Treatment
Lynn Valley Optometry offers MacuMira™, an advanced, non-invasive light therapy designed to support retinal health and help slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
MacuMira™ uses photobiomodulation (PBM), delivering a precise blend of red, yellow, and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular energy and reduce oxidative stress in the retina.
This gentle and comfortable therapy is supported by clinical research, offering a promising option to help preserve vision and improve retinal function for patients with dry AMD.
What is MacuMira?
MacuMira is a Health Canada-approved treatment designed to improve vision in patients with Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Dry AMD). This non-invasive, pain-free therapy uses low-level microcurrent technology to stimulate the retina’s natural repair processes and improve the function of photoreceptor cells.
How does it work?
Each session delivers safe, targeted microcurrent stimulation to the retina (macula), boosting cell performance, reducing inflammation, and supporting long-term retinal health.
Who is it for?
MacuMira is ideal for patients with Dry AMD who want a non-invasive, complementary treatment to help maintain vision and quality of life.
