Senior‘s Eye Exams
Prioritizing Comfort, Clarity & Long-Term Eye Health
As we age, our eyes naturally change - but vision loss doesn’t have to be a given. Many eye conditions develop gradually and without symptoms, which is why regular, comprehensive exams are so important.
At Lynn Valley Optometry, we take a thoughtful, proactive approach to senior eye care. Whether you’re managing a known condition or simply staying ahead of potential changes, we’re here to preserve your vision, protect your independence, and support your overall health.
Experience an Eye Exam Built Around You

Warm Welcome
Enjoy a warm welcome with a coffee as our front desk team gathers your health history, concerns, and lifestyle. We’re here to listen before we look.

Pre-Testing with Precision
Before you see the doctor, we use advanced diagnostic technology to scan and assess your eye health. This gives your optometrist a detailed picture—beyond what you can see or feel.

A Focused Exam with Your Optometrist
This is the heart of your visit. Your optometrist will take time to assess your vision, eye health, and visual demands. We welcome questions and make space for real conversation.

Personalized Recommendations
Whether you need a new prescription, dry eye treatment, vitamins, eye drops, or accessories, we’ll walk you through your results and next steps.

Tailored Solutions
From contact lens fittings to direct referrals to specialists, aestheticians, and opticians, we make sure your care is effortless and tailored to your lifestyle—all under one roof.

Optical Experience
If glasses are part of your plan, our opticians make the process easy and enjoyable. You'll relax while we bring you frames handpicked for your face, lifestyle, and vision—personalized and never overwhelming.

-
Cataracts
-
Glaucoma
-
Macular Degeneration (AMD)
-
Dry Eye
-
Diabetic Retinopathy
-
Low Vision concerns
At Lynn Valley Optometry we take the time to explain everything clearly and answer your questions.
How Often Should Seniors Have Eye Exams?
We recommend annual exams for anyone aged 65 and over, or earlier if you’re managing a condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease. Early detection and consistent monitoring are key to maintaining vision as you age.
Good vision helps you stay safe, independent, and connected to the world around you.
Lensometry
We measure your current glasses to understand your existing prescription and vision correction.
Visual Function Assessment
We assess how your eyes work together and perform in real-life visual tasks.
Visual Acuity (Distance & Near)
We measure how clearly you can see letters or images up close and far away.
Refraction (Subjective & Retinoscopy)
This is how we determine your prescription — both using light and your responses to different lenses.
Cover Test (Distance & Near)
Checks how well your eyes align and work together at various distances.
Extraocular Movements (EOMs)
We evaluate how your eyes move to detect any muscle or nerve issues.
Pupil Assessments (PERRLA)
We check your pupils’ responses to light and distance for signs of neurological or eye issues.
Confrontation Fields
A quick check of your peripheral (side) vision to screen for any blind spots.
Colour Vision & Stereopsis (New/Pediatric)
We test how well you see colours and depth — especially important for children and new patients.
Slit Lamp Exam
A detailed look at the front and back structures of your eye — including the eyelids, cornea, retina and optic nerve — to identify dryness, inflammation or early signs of disease.
Tonometry & Glaucoma Screening
Measures the intraocular pressure (IOP) inside your eyes to help detect early signs of glaucoma.
Dilated Fundus Exam (as needed >50)
Drops are used to widen your pupils so we can take a closer look at the retina and optic nerve — especially important after age 50.
Optos Retinal Imaging
A wide-field photo of the back of your eye, helping us catch concerns without dilation in many cases.
OCT
A 3D scan of your retina and optic nerve that helps detect early signs of ocular conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration.
