Dr. Altaz Shajani
Dr. Altaz Shajani

With an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for innovation, Dr. Altaz Shajani has transformed Lynn Valley Optometry into one of British Columbia’s most comprehensive eye health and wellness clinics. As owner and visionary, he has curated a one-of-a-kind environment where patients can access advanced diagnostics, expert care, and personalized eyewear all under one roof.

Under his leadership, the practice has evolved into a network of focused care centers: the Dry Eye Center of Excellence, led by Dr. Mahnia Madan and Dr. Diana Nguyen; the Vision Therapy Centre, guided by Dr. Coralee Mueller with support from Dr. Jenny Lee; the Specialty Contact Lens Program, led by Dr. Sergiu Picioreanu; the AMD Wellness Program, headed by Dr. Leena Panaich; and an in-house Medical Aesthetics practice. Each area of focus is supported by cutting-edge technology and a shared commitment to innovation, ensuring Lynn Valley Optometry remains one step ahead in elevating patient care.

Dr. Shajani’s commitment extends beyond clinical excellence. He has built a culture of collaboration, empowering his team of doctors, opticians, and clinicians to provide complete solutions tailored to each patient’s vision, comfort, and lifestyle.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia and graduated with Honours from the New England College of Optometry. His career reflects a consistent dedication to continuous improvement, innovation, and community connection. Dr. Shajani is a member of the British Columbia Association of Optometrists (BCAO), the British Columbia Doctors of Optometry (BCDO), the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), and the College of Optometrists of Ontario (COO).

Dr. Sergiu Picioreanu
Dr. Sergiu Picioreanu

Dr. Picioreanu’s enthusiasm for enhancing vision and ocular comfort is widely felt by all of his patients. He strongly believes that being in touch with the latest in research and technology is necessary to provide the best possible care to all patients.

While passionate about everything related to optometry, from myopia control to managing dry eye disease, Dr. Picioreanu takes particular satisfaction in providing innovative solutions for people with challenging corneal conditions.

He completed optometry school at the University of Waterloo and did his residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at Northeastern State University, Oklahoma College of Optometry. In 2018, pursuing his passion for research and continuing education, he also completed his Fellowship at the American Academy of Optometry. Since returning to Canada, Dr. Picioreanu received his certification with EyePrint, becoming the first practitioner in British Columbia to be able to share this cutting-edge technology with his patients.

When he is not at the clinic, Dr. Picioreanu enjoys perusing used bookstores, discovering new restaurants, playing beach volleyball in the summer, and trying his hand at drumming and guitar.

Dr. Jenny Lee
Dr. Jenny Lee

Dr. Lee brings a fresh perspective to Lynn Valley Optometry with a passionate background in binocular vision, ensuring that the eyes and brain work together effectively. She is dedicated to seeing each patient as an individual and providing personalized solutions to meet their needs.

Born in Vancouver, Dr. Lee is proud to serve the community where she was raised. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy after obtaining her optometry degree at the University of Waterloo. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an assistant editor for the Clinical and Refractive Optometry Journal.

Dr. Lee has completed clinical rotations with ophthalmologists in Pinellas Park, Florida, and Bolton, Ontario. Prior to optometry school, she volunteered and mentored others extensively on the Vancouver Crisis Centre phone lines and completed her Bachelor of Science Honours in Cellular, Anatomical and Physiological Sciences.

In her spare time, she enjoys making new friends, knitting and crocheting, and spending any time she can outdoors paddleboarding and hiking.

Dr. Mahnia Madan
Dr. Mahnia Madan

Dr. Madan is passionate about educating herself and her patients on the latest developments in vision, eye health, and advanced dry eye treatments. Her expertise includes innovative therapies such as IPL and PRP for managing dry eye disease.

Dr. Madan received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon. She completed a residency in ocular disease and surgical co-management at the Eye Center of Texas in Houston and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She practices in Vancouver and is the Immediate Past President of BC Doctors of Optometry.

 

An international speaker on dry eye and glaucoma, Dr. Madan has lectured throughout North America and published articles in several optometry journals. Her practice focuses on advanced dry eye treatments, including IPL (intense pulsed light) and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, as well as comprehensive glaucoma management.

 

In her spare time, she enjoys staying active at the gym, reading, and spending quality time with her family.

Dr. Coralee Mueller
Dr. Coralee Mueller

Canada is home to just two NeuroDevelopmental Movement® Consultants, and we’re excited to announce that one has recently set up practice in the North Shore. We take great pleasure in introducing Dr. Coralee Mueller, an accomplished optometrist with a wealth of expertise and over 20 years of experience, now part of the team at Lynn Valley Optometry.

NeuroDevelopmental Movement® (NDM) is a movement-based program that employs the developmental sequence to address conditions such as ADD & ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, head injuries and concussions, developmental delays, learning challenges, and more. We invite individuals of all ages to explore the potential root causes of their challenges and discover how to address them through Vision Therapy at our clinic. Dr. Mueller, the owner of NeuroVision Solutions, incorporates the benefits of NDM into the NeuroVision Therapy system when treating disorders of the visual system due to a variety of neurological conditions.

When not in the exam room, Dr. Mueller finds joy in nature, hiking, dancing, meditation, and playing with her two daughters.

Dr. Mueller is a Fellow with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD) and holds Board Certification in Vision Development, Vision Therapy, and Vision Rehabilitation. Alongside her impressive credentials, she runs the thriving NeuroVision Clinic with multiple locations in the Greater Toronto Area. Her commitment to advancing optometry is further demonstrated through her membership with the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and Vision Therapy Canada.

Dr. Leena Panaich

Dr. Leena Panaich brings a specialized focus to Lynn Valley Optometry, combining ocular disease co-management with a dedicated interest in low vision rehabilitation. As Director of Clinical Integration, she helps shape care pathways that merge medical optometry with personalized solutions.

She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry and works closely with retinal specialists across the province, supporting patients with retinal disease, dry eye, and other advanced ocular conditions. With advanced clinical training, she provides comprehensive care for complex and progressive eye diseases, with expertise in cataract and glaucoma co-management as well as refractive laser correction co-management. Dr. Panaich has also published research and articles in dry eye management, with upcoming publications in retinal disease, and maintains a special interest in low vision rehabilitation, having received training through the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS). In addition, she has contributed to professional education, including presenting at the UBC Rural Conference, where she taught medical doctors about ocular disease.

Dr. Diana Nguyen
Dr. Diana Nguyen

Born and raised in Ontario, Dr. Diana Nguyen earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University before completing her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo.Her clinical training included an externship in Northern British Columbia, where she gained experience in acute eye emergencies, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

She also co-managed post-cataract and post-PRK surgeries with ophthalmologists. Additional training in Brampton enhanced her expertise in advanced dry eye disease and glaucoma management, while her University of Waterloo rotation focused on myopia control and specialty contact lens fitting. She practices full-scope optometry with a special interest in dry eyes and myopia control.

Dr. Nguyen welcomes patients of all ages and speaks Vietnamese. Dedicated to continuous learning, she stays up to date with the latest research to provide top-tier patient care. She also served as an adjunct clinical instructor, mentoring fourth-year optometry students from the University of Waterloo and the Illinois College of Optometry.

 

A respected key opinion leader in the field, she frequently lectures across Canada on various optometry topics. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Nguyen is passionate about volunteerism, including participating in a mission trip to Peru.

 

In her free time, she enjoys weightlifting and training in diverse dance styles such as hip-hop, jazz funk, Afro-beats, dancehall, and heels. Over the past 5 years, she has practiced in Ontario and Manitoba and is thrilled to settle in Vancouver with her husband. They are eagerly planning hikes to explore BC’s stunning natural landscapes.
